Summer Camps

Many institutions for children in Eastern Europe do not receive enough funding for basic necessities (and especially for a social calendar) to keep the children physically fit, emotionally stable and well balanced. In these conditions of poverty, summer camps for the children are only a dream, which neither the poor families, nor the children’s homes can afford because they simply don’t have enough resources.
Many of the children living in institutions don’t have a chance to leave the institutions for the summer holidays.
Most of them have been abandoned at birth in the maternity hospital and they have no relative to visit during the summer school vacations.
They have little communication with other children or adults, except the ones in the Home.
They have little knowledge about the real world outside the orphanage walls and almost no life skills or crafts. There’s little they can do in the home during the summer vacation, with almost no play or sport equipment, they are left to languish in the courtyard.
There’s a great need for these children and for those in the needy families with 10 - 15 children, to experience a change of scenery, see something else, meet other people, have new experiences and live, swim, play like normal children should. They need to know that there are people who care about their needs, that there is hope and joy in life and that there is a God who loves them. Local churches are involved in training the summer camp teachers and volunteers and in preparing materials for the implementation of the Curriculum and the fun and sports activities.
