Operation Winter Rescue
This project, which is carried out during the winter months, benefits children and elderly living in institutions, as well as poor families in our family-to-family programs, as well as families indentified as being in critical need by us and other government and non-government organisations that assist the marginalised throughout our six field countries.
Eastern Europe is hit especially hard during the winter months, not only by the harsh weather but also by the lack of available heat. There are limited funds for the basic necessities. Money allocated for food supplies leaves little left for fuel, even if it were readily available with steady service. This translates into a daily struggle for survival.
Because of the sporadic energy supply, the electricity is often shut off during winter months. To go along with this, due to the insufficient gas supply, the heating of housing, hospitals, orphanages and homes for children is unsatisfactory. TO compound the problem, these state-run institutions do not always receive sufficient funding from the government to meet their needs. Therefore, they are not able to pay for their energy supply.
To meet this need during the winter months, Mission Without Borders carries out a program aimed at relieving some of the suffering of these people.The following items and supplies are typically provided through Operation Winter Rescue:
* Sleeping bags and warm coveralls
* Children’s clothing (coats, shirts, trousers, gloves)
* Babies’ and children’s shoes
* Warm boots
* Blankets and linens
