Parents Anatol and Elena are married and are the doting parents of one year old Tudor. Anatol is unemployed and has no qualifications. He never studied at school as he was sick in his childhood and his parents didn’t send him to school. Elena is on her maternity leave and she cares for baby Tudor as well as caring for the household. The family lives together with their parents. The house is old and has three rooms. The family has a kitchen and food is prepared on a gas stove, unless they are using the wood stove to heat the home, which they therefore also use for cooking . They do not have bathroom facilities and the toilet is outside. The windows are old and rotten and the roofing slates are broken and leak. Close to their house they have a garden where the family grows vegetables and fruit trees.

Anatol has intra-cranial blood pressure and Elena has pancreas and kidne problems. Tudor has been hospitalised because of problems with his nervous system. Tamara (grandmother) has chronic bronchitis, kidney, stomach and heart problems.

The family needs a washing machine, medical treatment for Elena, Tudor and Mrs Tamara, furniture (beds and chairs) and construction materials for renovating the house.

Anatol and Elena have accepted the Lord but Anatol requires encouragement and counselling, which our Coordinator is providing.

Community: Hijdieni MOLDOVA- There are approximately 4,350 people. Hijdieni was founded in 1757 and it is situated approximately 35km from Balti city and 6km from Glodeni. The history of the town is not known. The majority of the people work in agriculture, however this is not profitable as the people are poor. The “Bogalecom Moldova” company rented more than 1800 ha of peoples land and the villagers work for this company. About 299 families have their own land and work on it. More than 500 people left for abroad to find a better paid job.The medical facilities in the village are clinics, a drug store and a dental room. The minimal first aid is covered by medical insurance, but dental care is not included. In general, people have to pay for additional medical help. The only shops available are private and state shops and food shops.

The only schools available are primary and high school. For 10km the road is asphalt but after that it is gravel.

The most difficult aspects of life in this community are lack of workplaces and the poverty. The water is supplied from wells or running water. The water supply system needs major renovations.
